It has long puzzled commentators about the location that Jesus' chose to ask his most important question of his disciples 29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
He chose one of the most pagan sites in all the Roman province of Judea at that time - Caesarea Philipi - the location of the ancient shrines of Banias and Dionysis to get his disciples to wrestle with his claims.
Jesus' obviously didn't mind the competition and wanted his disciples to be away from the cacophony of the crowds in Galilee and Jerusalem in order to truly wrestle with the real identity of the man they were watching heal, teach and lead.
