Here is a picture on my Instagram feed of just how amazing this body of water is... particularly in this part of the world. This is the Sea of Tiberius taken from the shores of the village of Kefar Nahum... the Village of Nahum... where Simon, Andrew, James and John were all from and where the Bible says Jesus returned "home" to in order to minister, heal and preach in the region of the Galilee.
During the last moments of the retreat we had communion together and the Lord provided weather to perfectly illustrate what Jesus and his disciples experienced in Mark 4. For 90% of our time together the wind was light... the sun was shining... the sea was calm. But as I and the other communion stewards headed down the aisle with the trays full of unleaven bread for the worshippers... a wind storm brewed up and began threatening the sound system... the lights... it was amazing and concerning all at the same time.
That night in Tiberius lots of went out for coffee. I went with my Christian Journey's colleague Bob Howes to a local spot for ice cream. While there... not far from the water we encountered some orthodox Jewish men holding a synagogue service in the food court of this outdoor mall... church-planting Haredi-style. Here is a picture of them:
